Liverpool City Region

Liverpool’s year as “European Capital of Culture” provided the perfect springboard for the development of a Find Your Talent pilot for young people. It has allowed culture and learning organisations on Merseyside to strengthen the relationships that were developed during the Capital of Culture year as well as trial new approaches.

Liverpool is one of two pilot areas being led by arts organisations: National Museums Liverpool and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra led the bid. Their success secured £1m from regional borough partners in addition to the funding from the Department for Culture Media and Sport.

The Liverpool programme focuses on three neighbourhoods across three local authorities: the Kirkby area of Knowsley, Liverpool City Area and St Helens. Find Your Talent Liverpool is working with all schools and youth services across these areas. In each of these neighbourhoods, specific issues have been identified in terms of the low aspirations and under-achievement of 11-19 year olds, particularly those not in employment, education or training (NEETs) or those at risk of becoming excluded from mainstream education. The programme is focusing on embedding Find Your Talent in the local authority.

Find Your Talent Liverpool's vision is of enterprising, creative, young people across Liverpool City Region, confident and motivated to thrive on the momentum of Capital of Culture 2008; of talented children and young people, inspired through exposure to Liverpool’s creative and cultural excellence, readily accessing the tools, information and support they need to progress.
