Young people wanted to create a theatre production based on an Asian wedding.
They attended various workshops to aid them in running the project including a strategic planning workshop, writing workshops and theatre workshops.
The young people involved in the project undertook every aspect of the production including: suggesting ideas for the script, writing and re-writing the script, planning the schedule, presenting the script to ‘The Curve’ to prove that they had a credible production, were able to act in the production and more.
The final outcome was the sell-out run of “Lalita’s Big Fat Asian Wedding” at The Curve in September which was acclaimed a great success by all who participated in the production and all audience members who were asked after the performance.
A young person involved in the project commented, “Me one year ago – finished GCSEs, no idea what to do next, no idea what direction I wanted to go in, no idea. Secretly wanted to get into the Theatre – parents opposed this. Me one year on – difficult to believe, but thanks to Find Your Talent and Hathi Productions I have been a Cultural Ambassador, been trained in the theatre arts, have performed in two runs at The Curve with a professional company, been on national tour to Nuffield Theatre Southampton, Drum Theatre Birmingham and Rich Mix Theatre London. I have made a short film for the RSPCC and taken an indescribable part in the Leicester Comedy Festival – all experiences which a year ago I would never have thought possible.”
