The project would enable the group to extend their partnership with the Library Service in the role as cultural advisers or cultural ambassadors, and further develop their skills as ‘young commissioners’.
A series of participatory activities were arranged including visual arts, painting, collage and mosaic making and T-shirt printing. Professional writers were also hired to give book readings and talk sessions.
Odd Socs have been very proactive in the following development areas: widening participation, developing new audiences, marketing and promotion, and consultation and evaluation. As a result, all of the project activity has been shaped to meet the needs and interests of other young people. The group have co-ordinated a range of promotional activity in other libraries in the local area, including presentations in local Primary and Secondary schools.
Visitors to Lutterworth Library have also benefited from seeing how the project has evolved within the library space, commenting on how it now has a different feel. Parents visiting the Library have also commented that their children have been inspired by these changes and how much more welcoming the environment had become.
