A site specific promenade performance created by students from the University of Winchester at the Royal Naval Submarine Museum, Gosport, for the 2010 Light Night celebrations.

1st February 2010 - 31st March 2010

FYT PUSH co-ordinated a series of family events and evening openings in Portsmouth, Southampton, Gosport and Fareham to celebrate the clocks going forward on 27 March.  The Royal Naval Submarine Museum provided an amazing programme that featured horrible science from author Nick Arnold and a signalling display by the Navy.

But the highlight of the day was the promenade performance created specifically for Gosport Light Night by students on the University of Winchester Street Arts BA course, working with their resident tutors from innovative theatre company, Periplum.  This performance was devised by the students taking inspiration from the site itself, including submarine HMS Alliance, and the exhibits and text displayed throughout the museum.

Audience members were escorted around the site after dark on an atmospheric trail that incorporated drama, film, comedy, music, physical theatre, suspense and amazing lighting effects, all devised to capture a sense of the extraordinary lives of submariners.

In addition to providing a brilliant, family friendly show for over 100 people, the students also had an amazing opportunity to produce a commissioned piece of work as part of their degree course.
