Student Choice at Southampton City Art Gallery

A youth-led visual arts project where young people curated their own exhibition at Southampton City Art Gallery.

6th October 2009 - 28th October 2009

Fairbridge Solent is a youth centre working with some of the hardest to reach young people in Southampton.  With access to the City Gallery‚Äôs incredible collection and support from gallery staff and artist Liz Jones, the young people have curated an exhibition that also includes their own work, based on their responses to the selected pieces.

The pieces produced were of impressive quality as well as scale. Amongst the art works produced by the young people was an 8 foot canvas, a 3D sea scene and a life-sized door.  The pieces reflect aspects of their personalities and gave the young people a unique opportunity to express themselves in a rewarding and creative way.

The young people enjoyed their very own private view when the Mayor of Southampton officially opened the exhibition on 28th October 2009.  The exhibition can be seen at the Gallery until 4th January 2010.
