Gap Rep

Creative training opportunity for young people in a professional theatre setting.

1st September 2009 - 28th February 2010

The Gap Rep theatre company is made up of young people at different stages of their careers; two recently qualified young actors, three who have just finished or are in the middle of their first degrees and three who are taking a post-A Level gap year.

This project gives them opportunities to try out all aspects of stage and backstage work under the direction of Daniel Hill, Youth Theatre Director and to work with hundreds of other young people in the area.

The company have just finished a school’s tour of Little Hope, a commissioned piece of new writing with associated workshops developed by the company.  They have now started work on the Christmas production of Pinocchio and next year they begin an exciting project with local schools that will integrate scenes with different casts into a contemporary version of The Tempest.

This project delivers on so many levels:

  • Tailored training in a live professional theatre setting in acting, directing, design and stage management
  • The opportunity to work intensively in a variety of theatrical forms and in different roles
  • The chance to devise, develop and deliver workshops to other young people
  • A huge outreach programme that is contributing to PSHE, English Literature and Performing Arts programmes
  • Excellent examples of peer mentoring at a variety of levels
