Finding Hampshire

Young people of South Hampshire experience and participate in the art, heritage and culture of their area.

29th July 2009 - 30th October 2009

From July to October 2009, a group of 11 young people aged 12-16 from the Havant and Waterlooville area in southern Hampshire undertook a program of activities that coincided with their summer holiday activity program. This program of activities aimed to introduce them to parts of Hampshire that they have never visited previously, while offering them the opportunity to pursue new interests.

Activities included visits to the Milestones Museum, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and the Mid-Hants Railway Watercress Line and a theatre workshop at the Theatre Royal Winchester.

  • The ambition of the project was to offer an insight into the young peoples county, and allow them to interact with culture and history both past and present. The outcome of the project was the galvanising of the group through their experiences and the creation of new interests and a change in attitude towards activities towards experiencing new things that in the past the young people would not have wished to participate such as street dance, museum trips, acting theatre, art and animation workshops.
