The burgeoning Chichester Festival Youth Theatre group at Park Community School is offering inspiring experiences to the young people in Leigh Park, Havant in southern Hampshire. The youth theatre was set up in September 2009 and currently two weekly sessions are run. The younger group (Year 6-9) is characterised by high energy and a playful atmosphere, which is noticeably increasing the confidence and self-belief of some of the shier members of the group, while at once allowing for the more self-assured members to increase their skills in fields such as improvisation and character development.
The older group (Year 10-13) follows a different pattern; sessions are dedicated to more challenging work, and participants are clearly benefiting from the chance to examine unfamiliar genres of theatre, and the opportunity to experiment with new ways of using movement and voice in a creative atmosphere.
The Chichester Youth Theatre in Leigh Park is a unique experience which is very much suited to an aspiring actor. I am encouraged excel and try to reach my full potential. It takes place in a friendly environment with small classes with the teaching being at high quality. The lessons are filled with an enthusiastic atmosphere and are something I very much enjoy and look forward to. I am given the chance to attend workshops and audition for long term productions. I love attending the Youth Theatre as it gives me a chance to explore different theatrical techniques for example physical theatre in such depth.
