Bring Your Brood, Southampton

Bring Your Brood was a project aimed at early years and families run by Southampton Music Services in partnership with Sure Start.

23rd March 2009 - 6th April 2009

155 children and 122 adults (including fathers and grandparents) attended these drop in sessions which took place in ten different Sure Start centres across the city.

The workshops taught musical skills using a combination of rhymes, action songs, musical movement and live music within each session. These workshops helped to develop the speech, language, social and emotional skills of the young children as well as contributing to their creative development. Parents learnt to memorise rhymes, how to soothe their babies, as well as singing techniques.

Bring Your Brood was so successful that it is now being rolled out across the PUSH region with a series of workshops continuing in Southampton and new workshops starting in Portsmouth.

  • ‘I can never remember all the words to songs when I sing them to my son, now I’ll be able to learn these songs and do them with him’

‘The instruments are amazing, it’s so lovely for the children to be able to play with them all.’

‘My daughter loved the instruments, especially the train.’
