The Jigsaw Project

Public art installation representative of the North Tyneside Youth Village service users

1st January 2010 - 31st May 2010

Having undertaken previous work with the Youth Offending Team, FYT were approached to undertake a visual arts project which would culminate in an interior piece of public art which would be representative of all the North Tyneside Youth Village service users: Pathways To Work, B4 Panel (the N/T Youth Inclusion and Support Panel (YISP)), Mentor Project,  Never2Late substance misuse team, the Youth Offending Team and the Leaving Care Team. Young people then worked with two local artists on a collaged piece per group to create a large jigsaw art work which is due to be installed in the Youth Village.

The overarching theme of the project was to engage the young people in cultural activity both as a meaningful pursuit in and of itself and as a means of inspiring a sense of unity and pride in their environment and themselves.

The hope is that this project is then later developed to produce a piece of outdoor public art using the same whole centre approach.
