Crime Scene

Crime Scene was part of the schools programme for the British Science Festival.

13th September 2010 - 17th September 2010

The Crime Scene project took place in six Telford secondary schools during the week beginning 13 September 2010. Key Stage 4 students were given the opportunity to work with actors from Birmingham Repertory Theatre and a Forensic Scientist from Staffordshire University to get to the bottom of a staged crime scene in their school. Actors acted as police officers and witnesses, offering clues to the perpetrator of an assault, and students got the chance to carry out real life forensic testing to establish who the suspect may have been.

Forensic Science is a great way of giving students a practical, hands-on application of their science curriculum, and demonstrates how what they learn in class is applicable in the real world. Working with the REP actors also gave students an opportunity to develop their communication and reasoning skills, and also to work with each other as a team. Feedback from students and teachers has been excellent, and the partnerships between The REP, Staffordshire University and Telford Schools have been strengthened through the project.
