My Museum

Stretch recently delivered a Find Your Talent project called 'My Museum' with a group of young people from care homes in Leeds to create museum collections from their personal belongings.

1st February 2010

My Museum was a great opportunity for young people to think about museum collections in a new way and included workshops in care home settings as well as visits to Leeds City Museum and the Discovery Centre.

By using their own belongings participants were able to explore themes around identity and develop confidence in creatively communicating their own ideas. This process was also supported through the Arts Award.

The project resulted in a final display piece Bad Girls Museum and in February a DVD of the workshops and visits was showcased at an event in Central Library

S-T-R-E-T-C-H is an arts charity established six years ago by Carlotta Goulden that works alongside disadvantaged groups, museums and gallery spaces.
